You have a new law degree and your first job is in the public defender’s office. Reality hits. You realize how much you DON’T know.

Fall Defender College 2021 is a special program designed for assistant public defenders with less than 18 months of experience. It will be held at the Hutchinson Island Marriott in Stuart, Florida. This intensive training course takes up where law school left off, giving you in-depth answers to basic questions and personalized attention. The course will feature both large group lecture sessions, demonstrations and small group practice sessions. All attendees are to arrive each morning dressed for court and ready to work. All attendees will receive materials for study and preparation prior to the program and should be prepared to start trial on Monday morning.

Registration Fee

The registration fee for this program is $275 per person and includes all course materials, Sunday evening dinner, scheduled breaks, and Wednesday lunch.

Hotel Accommodations and Address

The Hutchinson Island Marriott, 555 NE Ocean Blvd, Stuart, FL will provide accommodations at a special room rate of $125.00 (resort fee included in rate) plus tax, currently at 11%. Attendees are to make reservations directly with the hotel by calling (800)775-5936 and ask for the Florida Public Defender Assoc. rate. Deadline for room reservations is September 15, 2021 by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. After that date, room reservations are accepted on a space-available basis. Check-in time is 4:00 P.M.; check-out time is 11:00 P.M. Individual room reservations must be cancelled 48 hours prior to arrival to avoid one night’s charge.

Program Format

This program is designed to give participants hands-on experience. Students will be divided into six groups of eight people with 2 group leaders.
